Common Internet File System

Common Internet File System
   Abbreviated CIFS. A file system supported by Microsoft, DEC, Data General, SCO, and others, which allows users and organizations to run file systems over the Internet.
   CIFS is an extension to Microsoft's Server Message Blocks (SMB) file-sharing protocol and allows users to share files over the Internet in the same way that they share files using networking services on Windows clients.
